Penang Sentral (Penang Central)
Penang Sentral(PG Sentral) is one of the major development project which
under the Northern
Corridor Economic Region(NCER)
planning with in number Ninth Malaysia
Plan(9MP). PG Sentral is a modern transportation and logistics hub will
be built on the site of the Butterworth ferry terminal, railway station and replace
former bus terminal which burnt down in May 2001. The project, which aims to
transform Butterworth into a modern metropolitan area, covers 6 million square
feet of development, which including One Stop Transportation Hub, retail &
commercial central, residential and Hotel, development by Malaysian Resources
Corporation Bhd(MRCB) and Pelaburan Hartanah Bumiputra Bhd.
According to planned schedule, PG Sentral will begin
construction from year 2008 until year 2025 with total 7 phases development, however
it was several times delay due to the expropriation land process has involve many parties. On year end 2014 MRCB had announce that PG
Sentral is finally begin construction and expected get off on year end 2017
form phase 1. In the phase 1 development, MRCB will development an One Stop Transportation's
Hub, which link dual track railway station, Butterworth ferry terminal, bus
terminal, taxi terminal and sky cable car which under proposed on April 2015.
Following the
phase 2 development will construction 10 storeys retail & commercial
central building, MRCB also will invite a famous department store into this
commercial central. MRCB expected phase 2 will get off on year 2019. In phase 3,
MRCB will constructions a 24 storey high hotel with have 307 rooms and other necessary
hotel facility ready by year 2021. It is worth
mentioning that the development plan for PG Sentral phase 1(except sky cable
car) until phase 3 has been approved by the Penang State Government and Majlis
Perbandaran Sebarang Perai (MPSP) on October 2014, it was influence Penang Transport Master Plan.
